Alright, genius. So you have rented a vehicle. That’s great, really it is. Your new vehicle is a great way to get around, and not have to pay stupid amounts of money to use public transport, but do you know where you shouldn’t go with it?

Yeah, so we can’t believe that we have to even talk about it, but there are obviously certain places that you should not take a rental vehicle. These can range from the more obvious to the realm of “we can see why you’d think it was safe.” Let’s take a quick peek.

The City Center

So, the first place you shouldn’t take a rental car is the city centre in peak rush-hour traffic. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? After all, what’s the point of owning the vehicle if you can’t take it where you want to.

Well, the reason that we insist you keep it away from the city centre at peak rush-hour specifically is the fact that it’s more likely to become damaged or you to get into an accident. Rush-hour traffic is absolute chaos, and if you’re not used to the driving rules and regulations in Greece, then you could be a prime target for causing a serious accident.

Unpaved Roads

We can’t believe this has to be said, but the roads that you’re supposed to drive on have a pavement. They have been especially built to drive on. Stop taking your vehicle on random country lanes that you find.

Seriously, if you break your car while driving on a random unpaved road, road service won’t come and fix it, and your insurance will be invalid. Probably not the best idea you ever had!

Ferries

Going island hopping is absolutely fine, but don’t do it without permission. If you’re going to take your vehicle on a ferry to go to another island, just ask us first. There are a bunch of other insurance concerns and general questions we have to ask if you want to go on ferries to another island, so we need to know.

Up a Mountain

Unfortunately, after one incident where a particularly motivated and enthusiastic tourist decided to take the rental vehicle halfway up a mountain to try and get a good photo for Instagram, we now have to insist that you don’t take your vehicle up a mountain. It’s dangerous, it’s reckless, and you are very likely to break something.

Final Thoughts

So, these are the top places you shouldn’t go with a rental vehicle. Some of these might seem like basic ideas, but there are others that you might be uncertain about.

The best suggestion that we can give is that you just let us know where you plan on going with your rental vehicle when you have it, and we can advise you on whether or not that’s a good idea. After all, we would hate to have to get into an argument with you about why the vehicle is currently on fire at the bottom of a ditch, so let’s make some smart decisions!
